Wildland Firefighters combat forest fires using the most modern initial attack and sustained action fire fighting techniques, fighting fire safely and aggressively. Wildland Firefighter Type 1 Firetack is an 18-day training program designed to prepare personnel in the practical and technical skills required to work as a highly trained, dedicated Wildland Firefighter member. Type 1 Firetack member's main duties are sustained action fire containment and initial attack fire suppression. Their training in modern fire suppression techniques and safety increases their demand during peak or emergency fire situations. Wildland Firefighters have opportunities to be exported provincially and nationally. This program consists of lectures and field training using the techniques and standards set by Alberta Sustainable Resource Development-Forest Protection Division. Entrance Requirements: Excellent physical health (completion of medical package) Grade 9 academic level Prior fire experience is a definite asset.
