The Bill Gibson Bursary was established by the Stampede City Progress Club to honour the contributions of their longest serving member, Bill Gibson. For over 50 years, Stampede City Progress Club has committed to making a difference in the lives of children in Calgary and the surrounding area by providing financial support to local children’s charities. Bill Gibson joined the Stampede City Canadian Progress Club in 1973 and remained a guiding light for over five decades. His contributions were endless, his friendships deep, and his mentorship lasting.
One award available, valued at $7,500, applied directly to tuition. Renewable for up to three consecutive years of study as long as recipient achieves good academic standing (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 2.7 or 70%) and maintains a full-time course load, as defined by the post-secondary institution (up to four years of support total).
Applicant must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, residing in Calgary.
- Be a Grade 12 student graduating this year from the Calgary Board of Education or Calgary Catholic School District.
- Be entering first year of a full-time undergraduate degree program at a Calgary post-secondary institution, directly from high school (no gap year).
- Demonstrate leadership in the Calgary community by volunteering.
- Demonstrate financial need (applicants must not be recipients of an award/bursary of equal or greater value from EducationMatters or Calgary Foundation).
- Provide one letter of reference.
Timeline: Most application forms open in mid-February.
Award deadlines: May 1 through June 30.
Applicants are notified of their application status by the end of September.
