Overview
The Professional Vegetation Managers Association (PVMA) represents utilities, forestry companies, road authorities, municipal weed managers, contractors, suppliers, government agencies and others involved in industrial and forestry vegetation management. The Association promotes industry improvement through method development, appropriate regulation, responsible field execution and workforce training. As part of this mandate, PVMA awards scholarships to support Alberta students pursuing post-secondary education related to vegetation management and the natural sciences. Scholarship recipients also receive complimentary admission and paid accommodations to PVMA’s Annual Spring Seminar.

Eligibility
Applicants must be Alberta residents enrolled in a post-secondary program at an Alberta institution and meet the Association’s academic and experience requirements. Candidates must provide transcripts and submit a written essay describing their interests and specialties in industrial or forestry vegetation management. Previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to apply. Preference is given to students in biology, agriculture, environmental studies, forestry or related natural science programs, or those with relevant work experience.
Eligibility: Applicants must meet the residency, academic, experience and essay requirements described below.
- Be a full-time resident of Alberta.
- Have completed at least one full year of a vegetation-related program with a passing average (transcript required), OR have completed at least one full year of any program with a passing average and relevant vegetation management work experience (transcript required).
- Submit a 1–2 page essay detailing outstanding interests and areas of specialty in industrial or forestry vegetation management.
- Have never previously been awarded this scholarship.
- Residency and academic documentation are required.
- Work experience can substitute when academic program is not vegetation-specific.
- Essay is a mandatory component of the application.
Award Details
PVMA awards up to five scholarships annually, each valued at CAD 2,000. In addition to the monetary award, each winner receives complimentary admission and paid accommodations for PVMA’s Annual Spring Seminar. The scholarship is intended to offset education expenses and to connect recipients with industry professionals and training opportunities. Specific disbursement procedures are managed by PVMA and communicated to awardees.

Application Process & Timeline
Applicants must complete the PVMA application form and submit all required documentation, including transcripts and the essay, by the annual November deadline. PVMA will not consider requests for deadline extensions. Winners are notified within 60 days after the application cut-off date. Applications should be sent to the PVMA as specified on the association’s website and must be complete by the stated deadline to be considered.

Selection and Privacy
Submissions are reviewed and judged at the sole discretion of PVMA. The Association reserves the right to refuse any application without bias and to destroy non-winning submissions after a winner has been chosen. PVMA may publish the winning essay and the winner’s name publicly, including on the Association website. The selection process is intended to identify applicants who best demonstrate interest, achievement and potential in vegetation management.
