The purpose of this course is to act as an introduction to the basic design, operation and maintenance of heating and other mechanical equipment used in industry, school, apartments, and office buildings of small to moderate size. This course is prepared for operators in the food processing industry, building operators, custodians, resident managers and others involved in operations of mechanical equipment in buildings and plants. It is intended as a preparatory course to challenging the Alberta Boiler Safety Association Fifth Class Power Engineering Certificate. To qualify to take the ABSA exam and receive that certificate you must have operated a power plant or heating plant boiler for a period of six months and successfully complete this course.
