What you need to get in to the Medicine at University of Alberta?
There is no entry directly from high school. Students are encouraged to obtain a baccalaureate degree before admission but may apply after two or three years in a degree program. Minimum GPA of 3.3 required. Applicants applying after two or threee years must present a minimum GPA of 3.7. Bachelor of Science (General) is one appropriate route, but there are no limitations. It is recommended that students have the following Grade 12 subjects in order to complete the prerequisites: English Language Arts 30-1; Biology 30; Chemistry 30; Pure Mathematics 30; Physics 30. At least two years of full-time study required (60 credits, 30 of which must be taken full-time in one Fall/Winter). Prerequisites consist of courses in English, Chemistry (Inorganic and Organic), Biology, Physics, Statistics, and Biochemistry. Additional requirements include a Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) - the Faculty will not accept the MCAT written in the Spring of the academic year of admission. Interview, essay, and letters of reference also required. Medical examination testing will be required from accepted applicants. Selection Criteria: Selection factors will consist of the GPA; the prerequisite GPA; the MCAT; and non-academic materials (interview and letters of reference).
